Volunteering

If it takes a village to raise a child it takes a town to run a synagogue! We have an incredible group of Community Makers who ensure the FPS wheels keep turning. We hope being a Community Maker is enjoyable, a great way to meet new people, and have a peek at the inner workings of community life.

A lot of the volunteering roles are over Shabbat -

  • Tech Wizards: support our sound, camera and streaming

  • Kiddush makers: putting out and clearing away our delicious kiddush

  • Online Hosts: welcoming members online and managing the Zoom room.

  • Welcomers: welcoming members into the synagogue and providing information when needed

  • Security Wardens: working with our professional security staff to keep everyone safe.

  • Lay leaders: leading services and reading Torah

However, there are plenty of non-Shabbat and service-related volunteering opportunities. We have Social Action and Social Justice teams, supporting Ukrainian, Syrian and Afghani refugees, working with the local council to create a more eco-friendly local area, and to improve youth mental health in Barnet.
